Today is January 1, 2011 and unbelievably it is 10’C. (50 ‘ F.) and not a speck of snow to be seen on the fields here in Newcastle! Because we are about a half mile north of Lake Ontario, we are in an area that gets limited snowfall these days. However, 2 weeks ago we had an inch or so of snow, but 45 minutes north of here, the area around Millbrook had about 8 inches and was like a winter wonderland. I took some photos there which I will include my little slideshow.
Joe and I brought in the New Year with 4 friends in Toronto. We chose a menu and 3 of the women, including me, brought the ingredients to Nora’s place and cooked the “Dinner is in Session” from Gourmet. The meal included “Spicy Crab Linguini with Preserved Lemons”, “Chicken Breasts Provencal”, “Parsleyed Potatoes with Saffron”, “Green Beans with Hazelnuts Salad” and “Lemon Curd Tart with Olive Oil”. All the dishes were elegant, so full of flavour and quite simple to prepare. It was a great way to spend New Year’s Eve rather than going out to a big party or club after such a busy holiday season.
Well I am beginning another new year the way that I usually do, lots of plans for improvement…..less eating, more exercise and more frequent blog posts!
Wonderful photos Jane! I love the one with the Swans and ducks.
Happy New Year to you – I am looking forward to your slide show posts this year.
Best wishes
Carolyn
Carolyn,
Glad you like the ducks and swans. Photo was taken at Bond Head on Lake Ontario.
This group sure appeared to be huddled together for extra warmth.
Best wishes to you as well for 2011.
Jane
Hi Jane,
The pictures are beautiful!! My favorites are the ice pictures.
Les
Les,
I find it more difficult to find great shots when we have so little snow here. Perhaps Thunder Bay has more opportunities.
Glad you like the ice shots
Jane
